The mere mention of Shergar is usually enough - the record-breaking colt thrusting Walter into racing's hierarchy in the 1981 Derby. This heralded a hugely successful career across the globe throughout the 80's and 90's with two more Derbys and other Classics, both here and in Europe, as well as riding at all the major tracks in the USA, Hong Kong, Japan and Australia

A lifetime in racing and experience gained worldwide was the perfect grounding for when Walter took out his trainer's licence in 2004. Adjusting readily to his new role, training winners became as much a way of life as riding them had been, chalking up his first winner with only his eighth runner.
